This Privacy Policy ("Policy") applies to www.factssicklecell.org, and F.A.C.T.S., Finding a Cure Together 4 Sickle Cell Disease ("Organization") and governs data collection and usage.  For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, unless otherwise noted, all references to the Organization include www.factssicklecell.org.  The Organization's website is an informational site about sickle cell research, and donations and support events like the F.A.C.T.S. annual 5k walk. By using the Organization website, you consent to the data practices described in this statement.

Collection of your Personal Information

To better provide you with news and events, the Organization may collect
personally identifiable information, such as your:

  • first and last name.

  • mailing address.

  • phone number(s).

The Organization may also collect anonymous demographic information, which is not unique to you, such as your:

  • age.

  • gender.

We do not collect any personal information about you unless you voluntarily provide it to us. However, you may be required to provide certain personal information to us when you elect to use certain services and events. These may include: (a) registering for an event and (b) sending us an email message.  To wit, we will use your information for, but not limited to, communicating with you in relation to the services you have requested from us.  We also may gather additional personal or non-personal information in the future.

Use of your Personal Information

The Organization collects and uses your personal information in the following ways:

  • to deliver the services you have requested.

  • to provide you with information that you request from us.

  • to communicate matters related to and changes to our organization and events.

Sharing Information with Third Parties

The Organization does not sell, rent, or lease its customer lists to third parties.  The Organization may share data with trusted partners to help perform statistical analysis, send you email or postal mail, provide customer support, or arrange for deliveries. All such third parties are prohibited from using your personal information except to provide these services to the Organization, and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information.

The Organization may disclose your personal information, without notice, if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on the Organization or the site; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of the Organization; and/or (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of the Organization, or the public.  We may disclose user data to any member of our organization who reasonably needs access to user data to achieve the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy.

How Long We Store Personal Data

User data will be stored until the purpose the data was collected for has been achieved.
You will be notified if your data is kept for longer than this period.

How We Protect Your Personal Data

All data is only accessible to our members.  Our employee members are bound by strict confidentiality agreements and a breach of this agreement would result in the member's termination.  While we take all reasonable precautions to ensure that user data is secure and that users are protected, there is always a risk of harm.  The Internet as a whole can be insecure at times and therefore, we are unable to guarantee the security of user data beyond what is reasonably practical.

Use of Cookies

One of the primary purposes of cookies is to provide a convenience feature to save you time. A cookie is a small file, stored on a user's hard drive by a website.   Cookies cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer.  Cookies are uniquely assigned to you and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.  Its purpose is to collect data relating to the user's browsing habits. When you return to the same website, the information you previously provided can be retrieved, so you can easily use the Organization's features that you customized.  You can choose to be notified each time a cookie is transmitted.  You have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Children Under Thirteen

The Organization does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13.  If you are under the age of 13, you must ask your parent or guardian for permission to use this website.

Right to Deletion

Subject to certain exceptions set out below, on receipt of a verifiable request from you, we will:

  • delete your personal information from our records; and

  • direct any service providers to delete your personal information from their records.

Changes to This Statement

The Organization reserves the right to change this Policy from time to time.  For example, when there are changes in our services, changes in our data protection practices, or changes in the law.  When changes to this Policy are significant, we will inform you.  When we amend this Privacy Policy, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this Privacy Policy.  We recommend that our users periodically review our Privacy Policy to ensure that they are notified of any updates. If necessary, we may notify users by email of changes to this Privacy Policy.
